According to a report in Los Angeles Magazine, CBS canceled James Corden's "The Late Late Show" due to declining profitability.
Unnamed
insiders told reporter Brian Stelter that the show cost CBS $60-$65
million annually to produce, but brought in less than $45 million in
revenue, making it unsustainable.
- Corden
hosted his final episode of "The Late Late Show" last week on April 27;
it remains unclear if the late-night franchise will continue following
his exit.
- The show averaged around 971,000 views in the
2020-2021 season; Corden's competitor, Seth Meyers' "Late Night,"
averaged around 1.01 million viewers that same year.
- Variety reported that Corden's salary was between $4-$5 million when he first joined the show in 2015, and then increased in 2019.
