Google Cloud releases Cloud Run Jobs

Google Cloud announced the general availability (GA) of Cloud Run Jobs , a service that enables developers to execute scripts and jobs that do not respond to HTTP requests using a serverless platform.

Cloud Run Jobs purports to leverage the full capabilities of serverless services, including faster deployment, improved ideation cycles, and automation.

Cloud Run was created to address the need for a serverless option to run workloads that don’t fit into the HTTP request paradigm,;includinginternal administrative jobs, scripts, orchestration workloads, lightweight data transformation tasks, and workloads that run on schedule instead of responding to an event.

  • According to a Google Cloud blog post , Cloud Run’s latest features move batch data transformations, database migrations, nightly reports, run-to-completion jobs, and network file systems to a serverless environment.
  • The new offering is said to reduce;the amount of maintenance normally required for computing resources.
  • The Cloud Run second-generation execution environment provides increased CPU and network performance;while allowing developers to move existing applications that use network file systems to Cloud Run without rewriting their storage layer.
