NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is partnering with NVIDIA

 

NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is partnering with NVIDIA and others to build a digital replica of Earth called the Earth Observation Digital Twin.  It uses AI technology and NVIDIA's Omniverse computing platform to analyze NOAA's massive datasets and display real-time findings. NOAA is facing the challenge of consolidating and utilizing vast amounts of data collected from different sensors and formats across satellites.  The Earth Observation Digital Twin project aims to create a virtual model of Earth that can visualize and predict the behavior of physical objects and systems. The initial focus of the project is on sea-surface temperature data, with plans to expand. Currently, only 24% of federal agency leaders have reported experimenting with virtual models.  Digital twins, however, are expected to gain popularity among government organizations over time. According to a report released in February 2023 by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), digital twins are being utilized in a wide range of applications, including supply chain optimization, agricultural management, and manufacturing.
