Nordstrom will shut down its stores in downtown San Francisco.

The move comes as the company continues to focus on digital technology as part of its "Closer to You" strategy.

  • Nordstrom will close its flagship store at San Francisco Centre and a nearby off-price Rack outlet.
  • Chief Stores Officer Jamie Nordstrom said the firm would focus on its 16 nearby Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack locations in addition to its online operations.
  • Nordstrom noted the remainder of the company's store fleet would "continue to play a critical part in delivering our Closer to You strategy."
  • The strategy aims to offer services for customers in their neighborhoods, including order pickup and returns.
