Twitch reverses new policy

Twitch reversed new policies surrounding advertising one day after they were announced following a mass creator backlash.

In a statement, representatives for the Amazon-owned company wrote that the update was "bad for you and bad for Twitch," adding "we will not prevent your ability to enter into direct relationships with sponsors."

The new guidelines would have barred Twitch creators from including "burned-in" video or display ads during their streams.

  • The regulations also limited branded logos to no more than 3% of the total screen space.
  • Many Twitch creators argued that the new rules were onerous and would significantly impact their ability to earn money from their content; others noted that it would have a negative effect on special events, like The Game Awards, and also charity drives on Twitch.
