YouTube announced updates to its YouTube Partner Program (YPP)

On June 13, YouTube announced updates to its YouTube Partner Program (YPP), which include earlier access to the YPP and lower eligibility criteria for monetization.

The new entry threshold signal YouTube's strategy to attract and retain creators amid the surging popularity of platforms like TikTok and Twitch.

According to a press release, the updated eligibility criteria state that creators must have a minimum of 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million shorts views in the last 90 days.

  • This new YPP tier will be available in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea, eventually expanding to other countries where YPP is available.
  • YouTube is aiming to attract TikTok creators by continuing to provide better monetization opportunities and the ability to upload long-form content. This comes at an opportune time when TikTok faces a possible ban in the U.S.
