Data from CBRE indicates that commercial real estate investment volume in Canada grew 32.2% QoQ to $14.7B in the first quarter of this year.

However, this is still 26.8% below last year's figures.

The rise in investment volume was powered by $9B in single asset and portfolio transactions and $5.7B for the Summit Industrial Income REIT M&A transaction by Singapore's GIC and Dream Industrial REIT.

  • Apart from M&A activity, investment volume declined for the fifth straight quarter and saw a 10.5% QoQ decrease.
  • The total number of transactions plunged for the forth consecutive month by 45.2% YoY to 1,476.
  • Industrial was the most active asset class, followed by ICI Land, multifamily, and retail.
