Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who stepped down as an executive in 2019, has returned to assist with the tech giant's AI efforts.

Brin has appeared at Google's Mountain View offices several times per week to work alongside researchers on Google's AI model Gemini.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Brin has been actively involved in AI-related meetings, interviewing researchers, and engaging in weekly AI research sessions with employees.

  • In December, Brin and fellow co-founder Larry Page were recruited by CEO Sundar Pichai in Google's "code red" response to the launch of ChatGPT.
  • According to employees, Brin's heightened involvement stems from his passion for AI and the company's need to keep up with competitors in the rapidly advancing market.

Gemini:

  • Google DeepMind's CEO, Demis Hassabis, is leading the ambitious Gemini chatbot project, which builds on the capabilities of DeepMind's AlphaGo AI system.
  • Gemini can analyze text, plan, and solve problems, Hassabis has said.
  • DeepMind, Googe's AI lab, previously introduced Sparrow, a dialogue agent focused on safe and appropriate responses,
  • Google also introduced its own AI chatbot, Bard, in March.
