In a Friday speech on AI, President Biden stressed the need for "new laws, regulations, and oversight" to manage AI's risk. Biden confirmed his plans to take "executive action" in the weeks ahead to support responsible AI innovation. While the White House will continue to issue executive actions for regulating AI, Biden stressed that Congress must also pass dedicated AI legislation. - "We'll see more technology change in the next 10 years, or even in the next few years, than we've seen in the last 50 years," he said.
- Biden, who announced the voluntary commitments from AI companies for safeguards, also called for bipartisan legislation that enforces strict limits on personal data collection, bans targeted advertisements to children, and prioritizes health and safety.
- He also thanked both Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) for prioritizing AI regulation.
