The U.S. Marine Corps is leveraging the metaverse through its "Project Tripoli" to synchronize live training exercises with VR simulations.

The project allows for the interaction of tens of thousands of Marines and sensors spread across a vast geographic region.

Project Tripoli is designed to connect Marines in disparate locations, such as those training at Twentynine Palms in the California desert, nearly 200 miles away from the nearest naval base in San Diego.

  • In a typical Project Tripoli scenario, a Marine acting as a joint terminal air controller would direct both live and simulated aircraft operated by Marines in different locations.
  • The Congressional Research Service defines the metaverse as an experience rather than a specific configuration of devices, platforms, applications, and services.
  • The key to a metaverse environment is an immersive 3D experience for the user with real-time, reliable network access that works across multiple platforms.

Asian countries like China and India have also advanced in training their armies through the metaverse.
