Amazon takes half of seller revenue

Amazon takes 50% of the revenue for each sale that third-party sellers make on its platform, according to a report by Marketplace Pulse.

Seller expenses increased as sales declined following the lifting of restrictions related to COVID-19.

  • Amazon collected 51.8% of the revenue from third-party sales on its platform in 2022.
  • Sellers pay between 25% and 35% in fulfillment fees and 15% toward advertising in addition to a 15% transaction or referral fee.
  • The company has hiked its commission fee since 2016, but the increases were initially offset by rising sales.
  • Sales grew particularly during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic but decreased as pandemic restrictions were lifted.
  • An Amazon spokesperson told Gizmodo that its fulfillment services remain significantly less expensive than third-party shipping providers.
