Apple launched its new Major League Soccer subscription service MLS Season Pass on Feb. 1 after entering a 10-year deal with the MLS.

The deal marks Apple's first move into selling TV ads for games.

  • Apple had previously partnered with the MLB to show baseball games, but the MLB had been responsible for selling the ad slots for those games.
  • Apple has a new sales team led by Todd Teresi, responsible for selling MLS games' ads.
  • The MLS had previously drawn 343,000 viewers per game on ABC and ESPN, and Apple hopes to draw these fans to its subscription service.
  • Apple is paying $250M per season for the rights. They are charging fans $15 a month or $99 per season and selling advertising packaged for $1.5M, $3M, and $4M to advertisers.
