British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reshuffled his cabinet for the first time since taking office in late October.

Sunak created four new ministries, including one focused on energy security and climate change.

  • Sunak named former Business Secretary Grant Shapps as the first-ever Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero.
  • In a tweet, Sunak said the new ministry "will focus on giving the UK cheaper, cleaner, more secure sources of energy," as well as reducing energy imports from Russia.
  • Sunak created a new science, technology, and innovation ministry, which will be headed by Michelle Donelan, who previously led the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport.
  • The trade and business departments will be merged into a single ministry, Sunak said.

  • Last month, Sunak sacked Conservative Party chair Nadhim Zahawi after it was revealed that Zahawi failed to disclose that his tax affairs were under investigation.
  • Sunak replaced Zahawi with former trade minister Greg Hands.
