Democrats won three special elections on Tuesday, giving them a single-seat lead in House.
- Democrat Tony DeLuca, who was the longest-serving member of the Pennsylvania House, won re-election in November despite dying of lymphoma in October.
- He
will be replaced by former Allegheny County Democratic Committee
executive director Joe McAndrew, who beat a Republican pastor.
- The two other special elections were held to replace Democratic House members Summer Lee and Austin Davis.
- Lee
became the first Black woman elected to represent Pennsylvania in
Congress in November, and Davis was elected as Pennsylvania lieutenant
governor.
- The GOP still controls the Senate but will no longer be able to override a veto from Democratic governor Josh Shapiro.
- Pennsylvania Republicans have been pushing for stricter voter ID laws and abortion restrictions.
