Netflix grabbed the rights to the sci-fi spec script "Seismic," from "Mortal Kombat" co-writer Greg Russo.

The story centers around a single mother who attempts to reunite with her missing son during a devastating attack on Planet Earth.

  • "Stranger Things" vet Shawn Levy will produce via his 21 Laps banner, which has an overall deal with Netflix.
  • "Mortal Kombat" debuted theatrically and on HBO Max in April 2021, and pulled in a robust $23.3 million at the domestic box office.
  • Russo previously wrote a stalled "Robotech" adaptation for director James Wan and Sony and a "Death Note" sequel, also for Netflix.
