Nicole Mann, a NASA astronaut who traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) in Oct. 2022 for a five-month stay, took a "space selfie" with her helmet's visor up.

The first Native American woman to travel to Earth's orbit took a selfie during a six-hour and 41-minute spacewalk.

  • Together with a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) spacewalker, she installed a modification kit on the ISS starboard truss structure.
  • Mann is an astronaut selected as a member of the Artemis Team, which aims to return humans to the moon by 2024.
  • Before joining NASA's astronaut corps in 2013, Mann served as a Marine Corps officer and a test pilot.
