Twitter experienced technical issues on Wednesday that prevented users from sending or posting messages for nearly two hours.

Users who tried to do so received an error message saying, “You are over the daily limit for sending Tweets.” The capabilities were working again as of Thursday morning.

  • To bypass the glitch, some Twitter users said they were able to send tweets by scheduling them in the future.
  • Users also reported being unable to access direct messages or follow accounts for over an hour. For the latter, they saw a message saying "You are unable to follow more people at this time."
  • The issues began around 4:30 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday and appeared to be mostly resolved by 6 or 7 p.m.
  • Twitter had yet to provide an explanation. In a post from its customer-support account, the company said "Twitter may not be working as expected for some of you" and “Sorry for the trouble," without elaborating.
