Meta announced that it has closed on its purchase of the VR company Within, the developer of the fitness app "Supernatural.
" The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had tried to block the acquisition on anti-competitive grounds but was unsuccessful.
- Meta has not disclosed the terms of the deal.
- The FTC argued that it would stifle competition and "tend to create a monopoly" in the VR market, especially given Meta's previous acquisition of "Beat Saber" studio Beat Games.
- Last week, a judge denied the FTC's request to block the merger. The FTC has now said it would not appeal that decision, allowing Meta to move forward.
- On Wednesday, Within confirmed that it is officially joining Meta. The Los Angeles-bases studio is mostly known for "Supernatural," an in-home fitness VR service, but has produced other VR and AR works.
