Amazon likely to avoid antitrust probes in 2023

 

The GOP-controlled House is likely to give Amazon and other tech giants a reprieve from antitrust investigations.   House Republicans do not have sufficient interest in enforcing or expanding antitrust legislation, CNBC reports. The House does not have the appetite to prevent Amazon, Apple, and Google from exploiting their dominant positions in the market, said Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) in an interview on CNBC. Most Republican leaders are interested in reducing the activities of the Federal Trade Commission because they believe it enforces excessive regulations. Despite recent developments in the U.S. political scene, Amazon remains under heavy international scrutiny. The company recently made legally binding commitments to change its e-commerce practices in a bid to resolve two EU antitrust investigations.
