Amazon likely to avoid antitrust probes in 2023

The GOP-controlled House is likely to give Amazon and other tech giants a reprieve from antitrust investigations.

House Republicans do not have sufficient interest in enforcing or expanding antitrust legislation, CNBC reports.

  • The House does not have the appetite to prevent Amazon, Apple, and Google from exploiting their dominant positions in the market, said Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) in an interview on CNBC.
  • Most Republican leaders are interested in reducing the activities of the Federal Trade Commission because they believe it enforces excessive regulations.
  • Despite recent developments in the U.S. political scene, Amazon remains under heavy international scrutiny.
  • The company recently made legally binding commitments to change its e-commerce practices in a bid to resolve two EU antitrust investigations.
