Google Cloud has just debuted Looker Modeler, a solution designed to help data-driven organizations define and use metrics more effectively to enable better governance, security, and cost management.

Looker Modeler builds on Looker’s semantic model and acts as a standalone metrics layer to create a single source of truth for an organization.

Looker is a startup specializing in business intelligence software and big data analytics that Google acquired for $2.6B in 2019.

  • The acquisition of Looker enabled Google Cloud to incorporate more expansive cloud analytics capabilities into its platform and services.
  • According to a recent press release, the new Looker Modeler service allows metrics to be consumed everywhere across well-known BI tools such as Connected Sheets, Looker Studio, Looker Studio Pro, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and ThoughtSpot.
  • Looker Modeler provides more data collaboration and analysis capabilities, enabling model sharing among coworkers and draft submissions to company data teams.
  • The new service will be available in preview during Q2 2023 and generally available later this year.
