Long-time Twitch CEO Emmett Shear announced today that he is stepping down.

  In 2007, Shear co-founded the livestreaming platform known as Justin.tv, which was the predecessor to the video game livestreaming site Twitch.

  • Twitch President Dan Clancy will take over as CEO, effective immediately.
  • Shear, who remains an adviser to the company, said he is "now a father and ready to move to my next phase of life."
  • In 2011, Justin.tv's gaming content was spun off as TwitchTV, which was released in public beta that year.
  • In 2014, Amazon acquired Twitch for $970M.
