Research has found that around one-quarter of people may be deficient in vitamin B12, essential for producing red blood cells and maintaining a healthy nervous system.

White spots on the skin can be a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency and are caused by low levels of melatonin in the affected area.

  • Other common signs of vitamin B12 deficiency include fatigue, muscle weakness, and constipation.
  • Vitamin B12 can be obtained from a diet including dairy, liver, salmon, and eggs.
  • Supplementation can also increase vitamin B12 levels, but maintaining a healthy and nutritious diet is essential.
  • The study also found that over half of the participants were deficient in vitamin D.
    • 1,079 adults in Germany had their vitamin B12 levels measured for this study.
