Amazon announced the launch of its Anti-Counterfeiting Exchange (ACX) initiative on Thursday.

The project aims to help retail stores identify and locate counterfeits as Amazon boosts its efforts to combat organized crime on its online platform.

  • Amazon's new initiative replicates data exchange programs used by credit card firms to locate scammers and recognize their tactics.
  • The project allows stores and sellers on Amazon's marketplace to anonymously provide information to a third-party database that helps flag counterfeiters.
  • Amazon tested its anti-counterfeiting initiative in 2021 on product categories where counterfeits are common, such as apparel and cosmetics items.
  • The initiative comes as Amazon collaborates with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to identify counterfeit shipments.
