Lyft has tapped former Amazon retail executive David Risher to become its new CEO.

He will take the role previously held by Lyft co-founder and CEO Logan Green, who will step back from the day-to-day management of the company along with president John Zimmer.

Risher started working at Amazon in 1997 as its first vice president of product and store development.

  • He served as a senior executive under Amazon founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos before leaving the company in 2002.
  • Ride-hailing platform Lyft went public in 2019, and its shares have lost 70% of their value over the last year.
  • Shares jumped by 5% following the news of Risher's appointment as CEO.
  • Risher is set to step into his new role on April 17.
