RNC airs AI-generated attack ad

The Republican National Committee debuted its first AI-generated video ad attacking President Biden in response to his campaign for re-election. An RNC spokesperson told Axios that it was the first time the U.S. political committee had produced a video that's fully AI-generated. The 30-second ad depicts dystopian images and scenarios, such as a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and an economic collapse, that it suggests could happen if Biden were to be re-elected. A disclaimer in the top left says the footage was "built entirely with AI imagery." The RNC didn't specify what AI tools it used to generate the video, which is part of its "Beat Biden" campaign. The ad underscores how it's likely that political groups will embrace AI in the upcoming election cycle and beyond, using the technology to help create more attack ads and other content. A 2019 Pew Research Center survey ;found that63% of U.S. adults believed altered or made-up videos result in "a great deal of confusion about the facts of current issues and events." As well, 77% said they believe there should be efforts to restrict altered videos and images that are designed to mislead.
