Several Microsoft Outlook email service users have reportedly been unable to send and receive emails after Microsoft implemented changes to its cloud storage quotas this February.

The tech giant now counts Outlook.com attachment data against a customer’s OneDrive data, and those who exceed their allotted cloud storage quota will experience email service disruptions.

  • Microsoft announced these changes on its support page, stating that “starting Feb. 1, 2023, cloud storage across Microsoft 365 apps and services will include Outlook.com attachments data and OneDrive data.”
  • Newer Microsoft customers receive five gigabytes of storage space, while long-time service users may have access to 15 gigabytes, the company’s previous quota.
  • Microsoft customers affected by these changes have taken to the internet to complain, alleging that they are being forced to buy cloud storage and that the tech giant is failing to be fully transparent about its new storage limits.
  • To rectify this issue, Outlook users can either upgrade to a higher tier to gain more storage, remove attachments and other large data from Outlook to ensure they remain below the quota, or simply opt for a different email provider.
