U.S. imports most champagne

 


What the numbers say: According to the trade association Comité Champagne, the U.S. led the way in procuring champagne with 34.1 million 750-milliliter bottles imported in 2021. The U.K. followed with 29.9 million bottles. 

Relevance: Over decades, champagne has been identified as a celebration drink at social gatherings and corporate events in most developed countries, including the U.S., France, the U.K., and Germany. This trend has gradually reached several Asian countries, including China, Japan, and South Korea.

Brands that should care:  Overall, champagne exports from France amounted to $5.7B in 2021, with the U.S. alone responsible for roughly $793M. Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Dom Perignon are some of the best-known champagne brands in the U.S.
