Warner Bros. Discovery executives will unveil specific plans for "Max," the combined HBO Max-Discovery+ streaming platform, during a launch event on Wednesday. Subscriptions to the new service will cost $16 a month, around the same price as a current HBO Max membership.
- The combined streaming platform has been at the center of CEO David Zaslav's plans for the company since the 2022 WarnerMedia/Discovery merger.
- Warner
Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels has called the launch of new
platform "one of our big, big priorities for this year" and "an
absolutely critical milestone."
- WBD's stated goal is to
increase overall streaming subscribers from its current level of 96.1
million to 130 million by 2025; Netflix is currently at 231 million
global subscribers, while Disney has 235 million across all of its
platforms.
- HBO Max subscribers are expected to be moved en masse over to the new platform; Discovery+ will remain as a standalone offering.
