CNN chief Chris Licht apologized to employees during a regular Monday staff call over a recent, negative profile in The Atlantic.

The Atlantic piece detailed some of Licht's struggles to shift the news network's voice and coverage under new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and the protests to some of his changes from staff members.

Licht apparently told staffers on Monday: "To those whose trust I've lost, I will fight like hell to win it back, because you deserve a leader who will be in the trenches, fighting to ensure CNN remains the world's most trusted name in news."

  • He also informed CNN staff that he plans to move from his executive suite to a new office, right next to the network's New York newsgathering team.
  • Licht has attempted to move CNN more toward straight news with fewer emotional pleas and opinion segments from anchors; over the course of his tenure, the network's ratings have slumped considerably.
