Vanity Fair got an exclusive first look at Zack Snyder's upcoming pair of Netflix fantasy sci-fi epics, "Rebel Moon." Both films in the "Rebel Moon" series will get two different cuts: one for general audiences and an explicit version that's just for adults. Snyder conceived of "Rebel Moon" as a single film, but with cuts coming in over 3 hours, Netflix decided to split it into two projects. - The films star Sofia Boutella as a young woman who must round up a crew of warriors to defend her peaceful colony against a powerful interplanetary warlord.
- The cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, and Michael Huisman.
- The first "Rebel Moon" film hits Netflix on December 22; there's no release date for the second film yet, but Snyder suggests it will arrive soon after the first.
- Snyder had originally developed "Rebel Moon" as a potential "Star Wars" spinoff, but reworked it into an original concept after Lucasfilm passed.
