Members of the SAG-AFTRA actors union voted to authorize a strike should upcoming negotiations with Hollywood studios fail to produce a new deal. According to SAG-AFTRA, around 65% of eligible union members voted. - SAG-AFTRA's negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) starts later this week; the Directors Guild recently cemented a new deal, with the Writers Guild is now 35 days into a strike.
- SAG-AFTRA has not been on strike since the two unions merged in 2012; the last significant actors strike was in 1980, and primarily sought to resolve a contract dispute over pay-TV and videocassette revenue.
