U.S. House members have been told to restrict their use of ChatGPT to only the paid version with privacy settings enabled, Axios reported.

No other large language models are currently authorized for use, according to a memo from House Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor.

The Committee on House Administration has provisionally approved ChatGPT Plus for use under certain conditions.

  • ChatGPT Plus offers built-in privacy features that are "necessary for House data," Szpindor wrote in the notice.
  • Additionally, she told House members that they could only use ChatGPT for publicly accessible and non-sensitive data and "research and evaluation" rather than everyday use.
  • To better ensure privacy, the memo informs lawmakers not to paste any blocks of text in the chat interface that weren't already made public.

According to a new report by cybersecurity firm Group-IB, over 100,000 login credentials for OpenAI's ChatGPT were leaked on the dark web.

  • The credential theft started a year ago but peaked with nearly 27,000 stolen logins last month.
