Scotch whisky global exports in 2022 reached £6B (~$7.3B) for the first time, according to figures released by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA).
India overtook France to become the largest Scotch whisky market in terms of volume.
- The 2022 value of exports grew 37%, with volumes rising to 1.67B 70cl bottles.
- That is 53 Scotch bottles exported per second, compared to 44 bottles in 2021.
- India saw a 60% growth in 2022.
- 219M bottles were exported to India in 2022, compared to 136M in 2021.
- The U.S. remains the largest export destination by value, reaching ~$1.3B in 2022, compared to ~$956M in 2021.
- It is the first time Scotch exports have exceeded £1B in the U.S.
- According to Mark Kent, SWA
chief executive, exceeding the export value is a "testament to the work
of our member companies and the tens of thousands of employees across
Scotland and the U.K. supply chain."
- The association revealed that Scotch producers saw double-digit growth in Taiwan, Singapore, and China.
